I prefer French wine. But there are three reasons I continue to explore what Italy has to offer. Firstly, the Romans had a lot to do with France’s winemaking success so I feel I ought to keep an open mind. Secondly, Nebbiolo – the Pinot noir of Italy (though given there’s over a thousand grape varieties indigenous to Italy I should remember point one and be a tad less picky). And thirdly, Italy produces a third of the world’s wine, so I’m just not prepared to miss out on that much.
