In this section you can read about all the interesting wines I’ve come across from the bottom left of France. Everything from Bordeaux to the Spanish border. Only you won’t find many from ‘Bored-o’ as I tend to find the more exciting and affordable wines from elsewhere in the region far more palatable.
Variety is the spice of life and this region delivers it in spades. Big tannic reds from the Cahors or Madiran, dry or sweet whites from the Juracon, the more sophisticated blends from Bergerac that give many a Bordeaux blend a run for its money, or something rare from the terraced vineyards cut into the Pyrenees in my favourite little Basque country appellation of Irouléguy.
Venture off the beaten track and this region is rich in little wines with big heart at heartwarming prices.
